Monochromatic painting

You need:
  1. white drawing sheet A3 size
  2. tempera paint
  3. brushes
  4. black marker

Children choose a geometric shape and draw this overlapping and in different sizes on their sheet. Then they choose one colour tempera to colour their shapes. Mixing is only allowed with white and black, because the painting has to be monochromatic. When ready, outline everything with black marker.

2 opmerkingen:

  1. How did you get the kids to do this well? My 6th graders found it challenging! Maybe it was the excessive chit chat during the directions!

  2. Mrs. Skojec, my experience is that children don't like to paint in the same colours.. but when the sharpie is there to outline the shapes, they are excited! So I showed an example of how the work should look like (I mostly don't show examples) and this motivated them!
Another idea: classical music during the lesson. 'If I can't hear the music anymore, you are talking to loud'!
