Turning around with circles, like Sonia Delaunay

What do you need?

1. white drawing sheet 21 cm by 21 cm
2. markers or color pencils
3. colored paper for background
4. compass
5. scissors and glue

About the artist
Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was a Ukrainian-French artist famous for her abstract art. Instead of painting objects, she used bright colors and geometric shapes like circles, triangles, and lines.
She believed art belonged everywhere. Beyond paintings, she designed colorful fabrics, furniture, clothes, and even a car. Sonia was so groundbreaking that she became the first living female artist to have her own exhibition at the Louvre museum in Paris.

What should you do?

1. Draw concentric circles with a compass. Be sure the center of the circles are at the edge of the sheet. 
2. Color the circles with markers or color pencils in maximum 5 colors.
3. Cut the drawing in four squares of 10,5 by 10,5 cm. 
4. Make a composition on colored paper by rotating the squares. 
5. Paste the pieces on the background leaving 1,5 cm between the squares.
